January 1946 : London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War , and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject . Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she ’ s never met , a native of the island of Guernsey . Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends-The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society — born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island . This is without a doubt a very uplifting , delightful story with a lot of light and funny moments and quirky characters . But it never denies or hides the horrors of the Second World War either . It depicts the German occupation with a degree of shared difficulties . Jean Seville recommended this book and will lead the discussion . Please join us . Items needed : Composition notebooks , folders with 3 prongs and pockets , # 2 pencils ( pre-sharpened appreciated ), pink erasers , glue sticks , crayons , markers , dry erase markers-especially black , highlighters , ink pens , boxes of tissues , hand sanitizer , baby wipes , zip lock bags ( sandwich and gallon ), sticky note pads .

To paraphrase the job description by the 2000 General Conference … the mission of this committee is to address the hopes and concerns of those in our community-hopes for peace with justice , environmental survival , and human welfare-so that communities may become more loving and just . Hopefully we are fulfilling that mission at Trinity .
