Sermon Title: Overcoming Expectations Rev. Chris Neikirk
Basic Theme: In John 16:33, Jesus assures His followers,“ In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” This Lenten series explores how the peace of Christ empowers us to overcome sin, fear, doubt, suffering, and even death. Each week, we will see how Jesus transforms lives, demonstrating that true peace comes only through faith in Christ. As we prepare for Easter, we embrace the victory Jesus has already won.
Sermon Snapshot( Key Points): As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds expected a conquering king, yet He came in humility, riding on a donkey. Many who cheered for Him would soon turn against Him when He did not meet their expectations. We, too, can struggle when God’ s plans differ from our own expectations. True peace comes when we trust that Jesus is not just the King, we want but the Savior we need.
So What? Reflect on any unmet expectations you have of God. Can you let go of those expectations, surrender them to God, and trust in His perfect plan.? Could you encourage someone who is struggling with doubt or disappointment by reminding them of Christ’ s faithfulness?

“ I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them,“ Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” 4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: 5“ Say to Daughter Zion,‘ See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” 6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,“ Hosanna to the Son of David!”“ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
