Our January book is“ The Frozen River” by Ariel Lawhorn. Inspired by the life of Martha Ballard, a renowned 18th-century midwife who defied the legal system and wrote herself into history.
Clever, layered, and subversive, Ariel Lawhon ' s newest offering introduces an unsung heroine who refused to accept anything less than justice at a time when women were considered best seen and not heard. The Frozen River is a thrilling, tense, and tender story about a remarkable woman who left an unparalleled legacy yet remains nearly forgotten to this day.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who shopped, wrapped, and brought gifts for children at HOPE Southern Indiana. All 75 kiddos received clothes, a fun item( toy), and poppers filled with candy. Parents could also pick out hats, scarfs, gloves and a stuffed animal for each child. All families received a gift card to Aldi’ s for food! The pictures on the bulletin board show the thankful parents and the gifts they are taking home for their children. Thank you for helping give some needy children a blessed Christmas! ~ Church and Society
